(or pay the going rate in pesos for each). ![]() Upon arrival I had to pay to use the room safe (the choice to use is optional), $14 USD and $13 USD for Environment tax. There was never an issue changing beach towels each day for new ones if required. Don’t understand why, as there is lots of room for racks. There is no towel rack for the hand towel either. People are going to want fresh dry towels instead of reusing wet ones. There are only 2 hooks where the toilet/shower area is and towels don’t dry well. Considering their website states that they are “implementing eco-friendly initiatives” there should be a towel rack to dry the big shower towels. There was a lack of hooks or drying racks for hanging clothes/towels. Rooms have umbrella, iron/iron board, fridge and safe. The rooms were a nice size and renovated but only have a small Juliet stye balcony so no outside table or chairs for sitting If you want to sit outside of your room you need a ground floor room. foam party, MJ show was to occur the next week. I think their entertainment rotates on a 2-week basis as some entertainment e.g. I have seen way to many of these shows during my travels. Only attended one show as they seemed to be mostly dance shows. They do have a digital drink menu posted at the lobby bar with some interesting drinks. Drinks at the resort were good but certainly not top shelf quality. There is the Hawk Lady who works with her hawk to keep the black birds and doves away from the area. Please do not feed any of the birds in this area. I was impressed with how they were constantly cleaning and removing plates around the snack bar area. There is the regular buffet for lunch or a smaller buffet by the snack bar. (Unless these were there the 3 nights I ate at other restaurants). Did not see shrimp, salmon, steak or anything of higher quality at buffet. Yes, there is repetition but there are also some additions so look around. You can eat outside on the patio at the buffet. The buffet and Xul-Ha restaurant are not air-conditioned. to enjoy some of the entertainment before dinner. There was always a live musical entertainer in lobby bar around 7-7:30 to 9 p.m. The outdoor Xul-Ha restaurant was the best (food and atmosphere) for me. The 3 restaurants were good but not outstanding. Only booked at Azteca as didn't want to travel to Maya for dinner during our 7 night stay. Could not get reservations until last half of trip but that was fine for us. I used the app to book the 3 restaurants right after we got to our room. It is not required and we gave it a firm pass. A "Club Viva" person will try to get you to sit with him/her right after check in. You need to be checked-in though before you can book restaurants. You will be able to use internet as soon as you arrive at hotel as there is no password required. Make sure you download the "Viva Wyndham" app before you leave so you have it ready. ![]() Music being played during the day was at a very tolerable level which you don’t find at many resorts. There never seemed to be any “partying” (overly loud people during the day or late night noise) going on during our stay. The Azteca felt like an adult only resort, yet it wasn’t. The Maya resort definitely had a lot more children and students. Check out the air-conditioned cafe bar at Viva Maya as there isn't one at Azteca. We walked through the Viva Maya resort a few times as you can use their facilities. ![]() This didn’t impact our ability to enjoy the resort in any way. This hotel has guests who are also Club Viva members who get perks for being members. I thought overall it was good value for what we paid. Azteca was very reasonably priced (on sale through a Canadian tour operator) for the Playacar area. Two adults spent 7 nights at this hotel in May 2023 and we really enjoyed our stay.
